Business Is a Spiritual Practice

If you’re having trouble earning, Where are you fearful of letting others see your talents? If you’re giving your work away for free, Where and why do you fail to value what you do? If you fail to celebrate your achievements, Where do you need to cultivate gratitude? If your business doesn’t feel like it’s fulfilling any longer, What needs to shift? If you’re no longer devoted to your business, What changes could occur?

You already know the answers. Each of us already knows the answers. Our only jobs are to admit the answers to ourselves. To become quiet. To let truths fall and to pave out a new path, Where we integrate business as a spiritual practice.

Because contrary to popular belief, business is a spiritual practice.

Business is one of the most spiritual things that I do. Every morning when I wake up, I believe someone cares about what I’m doing today and the reason why I’m doing it.

I am an intuitive coach and the creator of the Maria Fontana Transformation. Whenever I am dreaming up of new projects, I have enormous faith in the process of bringing each one to life and you need to do the same.

When I don’t feel like creating anything, I have to trust that the inspiration will come when I engage in the discipline of doing. You need to do the same. When I answer emails and phone calls, I have to practice devotion to kindness, patience and grace. And you need to do the same. When money is tight, I have to trust that it will come and you need to do the same. When money is abundant, I have to remain focused enough to
stay on the path that I currently am and to keep working, building and growing with integrity and grace. And you need to do the same.

As a business owner, we all have to have faith in this - all of this. Every minute of the business is worth it. We are working towards building something higher, stronger, better and deeper.

Business is a spiritual practice.

Spirituality is a word that can be tricky to define. The Oxford American Dictionary defines it as ... of, relating to, or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to the material or physical things.

For me as a business owner I would define spirituality as any connection that we feel to a greater purpose existence or reality than ourselves.

When people describe their spiritual experiences, they tend to use words like humbling, connected, deep trust. There are a couple of key themes that we can use within our business.

And one example is copywriting and sales. You've got to believe in yourself and your product. You need an attitude of service rather than talking endlessly about yourself. You have to listen to your audience and engage them in conversation. You have to care about your audience.

These are all elements of a spiritual being connecting with our target audience. Integrating spirituality into our business is an amazing way to connect with our audience. It helps them feel connected. If your business copies, sales, communication can reflect this sort of approach, what do you think is it going to do for your business?

Many people today are finding that there is more to life and business than just profits. The hottest buzzwords today are the triple bottom line, which is a commitment to people, planet and profit.

Many people say that it's about bringing your spiritual values into your workplace.

A recent poll published in USA Today found that eight out of 10 people say that workplaces would benefit from having a great sense of spirit within their work environment.

What is spirituality in business? There are a plethora of elements to look at. Some people think it's just embodying their personal values of integrity honesty and good quality work whereas others think it's treating their co-workers and employees in a responsible and kind way.

For others it's participating in a daily ritual of prayer meditation or intuitive guidance at work. Whereas for others it's making their business socially responsible in how it impacts the environment how it serves the community and how it helps to create a better word.

We do find that many businesses use the word spirituality loosely and as a generic and inclusive word more as opposed to a religion. Instead of emphasizing belief as religion does, the word spirituality emphasizes how values are applied and embodied.

Key spiritual values embraced in a business context include integrity honesty accountability quality cooperation service trustworthiness respect justice service and intuition.

Spirituality and profitability are mutually exclusive. Bringing ethics and spiritual values into the workplace can definitely lead to increased productivity and profitability as well as employee retention, brand reputation and customer loyalty. More and more employers globally are encouraging spirituality as a way to boost loyalty and enhance morale within the workplace.

BusinessWeek magazine in Australia recently found that productivity improves and turnover is greatly reduced when organizations engage in programs that use spiritual techniques for their employees.

In addition, a study reported in MIT Sloan Management Review came to the conclusion that people are hungry for ways in which to practice their spirituality in the workplace without offending their co-workers. The word spirituality is used generally and seems to emphasize how one's belief are applied day to day rather than religion in brackets which can evoke fear within a workplace.

It is evident that spirituality in business is a growing movement. It reflects a growing global movement to bring spiritual values into the workplace.

At the time of publication of this book, it is shown that there is a growing number of businesses and business owners that want spirituality to more to be more than just faith and belief. They want it to be practical and applied within the workforce. They want to bring their whole selves to work – body, mind and spirit.

We have found through our research of this book that nine out of 10 business owners are finding that the bottom line can be strengthened by embodying their values.

They can do well by doing good. People at all levels increasingly want to nourish their spirit and creativity at work. When we think about it we are at work more than we are anywhere else in our life. When we can encourage our workmates to express their creativity and to nourish and share their spirit, the result is a more fulfilled and sustained workforce. It is shown that happy people work harder and are more likely to stay at their jobs, which is going to help enormously with retention.

A recent study of business performance by the highly respected Wilson Learning Company found that 39 percent of the variability in corporate performance is attributed to the personal satisfaction of the staff.

Spirituality was cited as the second most important factor in personal happiness after health by the majority of Americans questioned in a USA weekend poll with forty-seven percent saying that spirituality was the most important element of their happiness.

Globally people want to bring a greater sense of meaning and purpose to their work life. They want their work to reflect their personal mission in life. Many organizations are finding the most effective way to bring spiritual values into the workplace is to clarify the company's vision and mission and to align it with a higher purpose and deeper commitment and connection to service both customers and community.

How The Maria Fontana Transformation Changed My Business

Stop Giving A Crap

Worrying about what other people think is a dead end. Other people's opinions of us do not matter in the reality of life, these misconceptions are learned behaviors which can be unlearned. Consuming our daily life around the approval, thoughts and wishes of others can fill your life and self worth .  Filling your head with only doubt. I have been guilty of giving a crap way too much in my life, because I was taught to worry about what people think, it had become a way of life and seemed like there was no other way. "Oh my, what will the neighbors think....?"  Through years of working on myself using efficient tools and techniques I am finally free, well, ( I occasionally fall off the wagon, but catch myself and get right back on track!)  By changing my thoughts and destructive pattern of not loving myself enough and not listening to my gut (aka-intuition.)  Sometimes stuff looks good on paper but is really challenging when you attempt to apply it to your daily...

I Matter

Yes! I said it, I don't care what you think of me. I don't care what you say about me either, and I will tell you why.  As many of us in our childhood I was conditioned to put other's first. The "people" mattered most of all, later I wondered who the fuck these people really were and what they had to do with my life anyway. What strangers, neighbors, relatives and just about everyone else said or thought had importance, my voice did not, what I felt was always pushed down.  My voice was stifled and my feelings ignored, now this is not a "poor me" story, but a story of growth.  As I healed and did immense work on myself I discovered "I" mattered, my voice mattered and my feelings mattered.  Simple gestures of self love towards myself helped me grow, here are a few I used: Scheduling myself for me time Eliminating toxic people from my circle Saying "NO" Doing only what brings me "Joy" and nothing out of obligation ...
